iPhone and iPad
You can hack your apple “iOS” device, Iphone / Ipad to allow you to run third party software. Doing so is referred to as “jail-breaking” your device.
Things you’re going to need:
- An iPhone or iPad – http://store.apple.com/us
- Your USB charge cable – http://store.apple.com/us
- A copy of the latest greenpois0n – http://www.greenpois0n.com/
- A MAC or PC – Greenpois0n has been released for both.
Follow the on screen instructions for Greenpois0n -
The first part: Plug in your iPhone or iPad with your USB charge cable, then power off your device.
The second part: “Prepare to Jailbreak”, just means get ready… (5 Seconds)
The third part: “Press and hold sleep button”, (3 seconds)
The fourth part: “Continue holding the sleep button, now press and hold the home button”, (10 seconds)
The fifth part: “Release the sleep button, continue to hold them home button”, (10 seconds)
The last part: Sit back and wait, if you followed the on screen directions you will see your device reboot and begin jailbreaking.
Now what?!?
Well, after your device has finished jailbreaking you will have a new icon labeled “loader”, click the icon and it will prompt you to install cydia. – http://cydia.saurik.com/
What is cydia? It’s basically an alternate App Store. You can install Apps that Apple doesn’t approve of and / or did not make it to the Official App Store, in addition to that it provides you with free apps that let you alter things Apple does not want you to, such as; installing themes that change your default icons, changing your boot logo, even browsing the file system on your device.
The possibilities are endless!
Points of interest / notes:
If the loader icon does not appear reboot your device.
If you are using a MAC and greenpois0n fails, follow the README included and launch greenpois0n from a terminal window.
Look-up hackulous – http://hackulo.us/forums/ (or just open cydia, go to the sources section, select edit, and add): http://cydia.hackulo.us
Search for iFile in cydia, it’s a very useful app, if you have an iPad and the camera connection kit you can actually connect a usb drive or sd card to your iPad and copy file to / from your iPad.
